Beautiful Skin
No matter what color or tone, everyone’s skin is beautiful. In this book, a biracial girl learns about race and how to respond to racism. Learn the importance of being kind to everyone and accepting each other’s differences. This book is a tool for parents to start the difficult conversation with their children about overcoming racism.
Meet Colleen
Colleen Thomas uses inspiration from her own kids to share her gift of rhyme and story telling with others. Her passion for poetry, combined with her creative vision to bring a story to life, has resulted in 3 self-published children's books.
Like her own family, her children's books include mixed race characters. Hidden on every page of Colleen's books are Tiger paws to pay tribute to her alma mater. She loves to include other significant personal symbols in the illustrations of her stories.
Colleen earned The Roaring10 Award which is presented by the Clemson Young Alumni Council to recognize 10 outstanding individuals who have graduated within the past 10 years. Honorees are selected for making significant impacts in their professions and communities while exemplifying the core values of honesty, integrity, and respect.
Colleen has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Clemson University. She currently works full time as a director of data and strategy for a STEM education non-profit based in Silicon Valley, CA.
Colleen and her husband, Brandon, reside in Birmingham, Alabama with their two daughters, Mary Kate and Leila, and son RJ.
